There was a big turnout for the opening round of the HSBC Winter League Walks on Sunday morning.  Six times Commonwealth Games athlete Steve Partington (174) turned up to help officiate but was persuaded by the other officials that they could manage without him and he took the lead right from the start and can be seen on the tight turn at the end of the lap in front of the helpers and supporters.

The event on Sunday was held on the TT Access Road which is only used as a road during the TT and Manx Grand Prix Motor Cycle Races to allow access to the inside of the course when races and practices are taking place and the roads are closed. The TT Course is on the other side of the wall and the land mark Quarter Bridge Hotel is in the background of the photo. The TT Access Road follows the course of the old Douglas to Peel railway line which was opened in 1873, closed in 1965 reopened in 1967 before closing for good in 1968.  It is also used for the Parish Walk to avoid the busy roads on the outskirts of Douglas.
