Western 10 Miles
Pictures by Murray Lambden There was a great battle for the Manx 10 Mile Championships on Friday night. Lorraine Stigant (centre) took the woman’s title from Gill Stripp (right) and Wendy Ross (left). The Championships were incorporated in the Western 10 These four women made a great race in the Western 10. Left to right Gill Stripp (54), Lorraine Stigant, Wendy Ross (70) and Janet Oates (67). Gill looked in confident mood as she hit the front. And I (mistakenly) thought that the other three were content to stick together. But by three miles, Lorraine had shot into the lead. Leaving Gill, Wendy & Janet in her wake. Half a mile further (approaching the Hope) and Lorraine is looking like a winner with just Robbie Callister for company. Wendy & Gill battle it out. The top of the big hill approaching the switchback and Lorraine is still ahead. But Gill has recovered from a short walk and has passed Wendy again (and Ian Callister). Lorraine put in a sprint finish to just miss the 75 minute barrier with Gill & Wendy staying close together a minute and a bit in arrears. Janet faded with a hip injury but gutted it out to the end.
