There is many a familiar face or name in the report of the 1989 Isle of Man Track & Field Champship above. Younger people may be surprised to know that the track at the National Sports Centre has only been with us for 21 years and that the Championships were held at Ramsey Grammar School and QE2 School in Peel in 1989 (after many years at he Bowl Stadium and they were also held at Tromode and Ballakermeen). And it was a familiar name of a politician who delivered the National Sports Centre to the Isle of Man, although its worth noting that this was after a less popular plan to site a new pool (the Aqua Leisure Centre) in the grounds of the Villa Marina. There were many campaigns for an all weather track to be built over a 30 year period before this.
Dates for the 2013 track season, including a series of meetings open to all athletes, are listed on the 2013 fixtures list. Manx Harriers also host a track league a the National Sports Stadium. Western AC and Northern AC promote leagues on the same grass tracks of Peel and Ramsey respectively used for the championships before the NSC was built.
