10,000
METRES IS BACK
The Isle
of Man Championship 10,000 metres is scheduled as
part of the Bank of Bermuda sponsored weekend of
23 & 24 August.
The 25
lap event is scheduled for Sunday. Its a chance
for all middle distance runners, whether they be
Island Games runners of the future, club level athletes
looking for a meaningful race to round off the Summer
season or new to the sport runners trying to find
a
new challenge with plenty of support from the spectators
in the stands.
Its the
first time that Bank of Bermuda have sponsored the
championships and every Island Games athlete has
a lot to be grateful to the sponsor for as they
funded the trip by a substantial amount.
I’ve campaigned
to bring back the 10,000 metres for more than two
years on this website. No one has argued against
the idea so get your entry in now! I guess
that will have to include me!
The only
small complaint I have is that the 5,000 metres
is scheduled for the previous day and no one
with any sense should consider both. How about
asking Manx Harriers if the 5,000 metres could be
switched to their open event the previous weekend? That would also
allow people to double up in the 5,000 metres and
the 1,500 metres.
The Bank
of Bermuda Championships have the potential to be
the best championships for years. With such a big time sponsor
scheduling will be the biggest challenge to the
organisers. Wouldn’t it be great if we could
have a detailed timetable published in advance –
one that was adhered to.
Thanks
to Graham Davies for the information and to Anthony
Brand and Graham Davies for all their efforts in
raising so much sponsorship for the Island Games
athletics team.
