Neil Bates, Parish Walk winner Robbie Callister, Thomas Davies and Peter Kaneen set off from a 4.40 handicap in the Steve Jacobs mile. They immediately unlap themselves from Norman Christian, last year's winner, on the inside. (Anthony Brand)

Bottom: Darren Grey, Andy Fox and John Halligan set off in pursuit of 32 other runners. The 36 and fastest runner, Keith Gerrard, is still stretching in the background. Meanwhile some of the runners have already completed 2 of the four laps.
