The Sara Killey Memorial Walk which was being held for the 3rd time and was organised by volunteers of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service in which the proceeds go towards the Fire Fighters Charity which helps supports the Rehabilitation of injured fire fighters throughout the UK.
The event was held yesterday this morning in favourable conditions, writes Tony Varley. 183 Competitors started the 30 mile event from Peel Fire Station which basically followed the Parish Walk route to Ramsey Fire Station. There was some excellent battles through out the field particularly in the men's event were there was only 7 minutes separating the first three. The eventual winner was Mark Hempsall who recorded an excellent time of 4hrs 58mins 51 secs. Last years Parish Walk winner Jock Waddington was 2nd in 5hrs 3mins 04 secs who held off super vet Robbie Callister who recorded a time of 5hrs 05mins 41 secs. Completing the top six were Vinny Lynch 5hrs 17mins 06 secs
Steve Partington (First Fire fighter) 5hrs 17mins 50secs. Richard Gerrard 5hrs 19mins 04secs.
The Ladies event was equally a close finish for the first two competitors which was won by Janice Quirk in a tremendous time of 5hrs 22mins 40secs who finished 9th overall she was stronger challenged in the latter stages by Sue Biggart in 5hrs 24mins 20secs.
An extremely happy Jackie Campbell was third lady in a time of 5hrs 46mins.
