Rachel Matulewicz

David Griffiths laments the tragic loss of Rachael who died in a road accident at the weekend.

Rachel  competed in the Parish Walk and the End-to-End Walk in recent years as well as the Dave Phillips Memorial Races this season, and only last Sunday week competed in the half-marathon at Ramsey. She was a caring and very talented vet, working at Raymond Cox’s Milan Veterinary Practice in Douglas for the past 4 years. I have cause to be grateful to her for successfully treating my cats for injuries on more than one occasion in the past. She was one of those people who had time and a smile for everyone, and even if you didn’t know her all that well you still liked her enormously. As I left Ramsey after the half-marathon she was just coming in to finish her race, and still found the time to say hi and ask me how I got on. Her death at 27 years of age is absolutely devastating for everybody who knew her, and I’m sure the whole athletics fraternity will wish to extend their heartfelt sympathy to her husband Michael, her family, her colleagues at Milan Vets, and all her friends. God bless, Rachel.
