Tony Okell, pictured above by Murray Lambden
in the Manx Mountain Marathon, is the favourite
for the Isle of Man Bank Peel to Douglas tomorrow
evening of the runners known to tackling the classic
11.25 mile race. If you know of anyone who
is taking part that may be a rival for Tony, then
please let us all know via the forum.
There was a surprise during
the early stages of the Ramsey Commissioners Park
Runs on Friday night when 18 year old Robbie Lambden
passed the eventual second placer, Mike Garrett,
and gave chase to Tony who went on to win
by about a minute. Robbie's very enthusiastic
start inevitably didn't last and he had to settle
for a time a mere 8 minutes faster than in the same
race last year! (Picture by Steve Partington)

Mike Garrett, like Paul Curphey
(number 29634 pictured about by Bridget Kaneen at
6 miles in the Flora London Marathon), will not
be tackling the Isle of Man Bank Peel to Douglas
so soon after the marathon and will instead turn
out in the Northern 10 miles in three weeks time.

The week after the London Marathon,
Manx Harriers enjoyed considerable success in the
Jeff Ford Memorial walks meeting held
at the Don Valley Stadium as part of the City of
Sheffield Open athletics meeting. Callum Taylor
(pictured by Simon Latham) was the winner of the
3,000 metres for under 15s).
