Another very enjoyable day in the hills for the 30 runners who turned up on Saturday, the best entry we have had for this race.

It has never been a very popular course and it is always on the same weekend or near to the Parish Walk which has prevented a lot from running.

Paul Sheard maintained his unbeaten run on the Manx fells producing another quality performance. You have to admire the way Paul goes about these races as not only does he make the most of his running ability but he also takes the trouble to recce the courses beforehand making sure he knows where he is going.

Tony Okell ran a good race to finish second although he had to keep an eye on Simon Skillicorn who was never far behind. Simon has grown in confidence since his brilliant run at Carraghyn  and he was delighted to get the better of training partner and pal Ian Gale. Onion managed to get past Paul "Nobby" Clarke in the last few miles and no doubt he will give him some stick about it at work at the Sorting Office on Monday. It was great to see Paul out on the hills again especially on a course that probably does`nt suit his style of running. Hopefully we will see him again this season on one of the more "runnable" courses where no doubt he will be out to reverse the positions.

Top lady was Rose Hooton followed by Christine Barwell.  Rose was dissapointed with her performace although she is probably being a bit hard on herself as her time was good and she was very close to the guys in front of her. Christine continues to show steady progress each race and I am sure if she continues to improve over the next 12 months, which I feel will be the case, she will be well inside the 2 hour mark in 2005.

One young runner who showed great determination was  Andrew Cowley. The 18 years old son of trackie Brian does very little running as he is an Island Games standard swimmer but this did not stop him having a go. He managed to get round the very difficult course in a more than respectable time and he has the blisters to prove it.

All things considered it was a successful race with the alterations to the course causing few problems and the weather once again absolutely superb.

Many thanks to Bettacrete for their sponsorship and to everyone who helped on the day especially the good folk at Ballachrink Farm for putting up with us. A special thanks to Margaret and Stephanie  for the excellent refreshments
