Who can you recognise from this picture from the 1987 Manx Airlines meeting? In those days, before the merger with Manx AC, the meeting was organised by Boundary Harriers and sponsored by Manx Airlines. This year's event, now known as the Manx Harriers open,  features a 20km walk (and other distances) plus a 10km run open to all, you can find out all about it at www.manxharriers.com where there are some more old pictures and all the results from years gone by.  The picture was taken outside the original Boundary Harriers clubhouse which was replaced by the new club with a more permanent structure.

To return to my question. Inside the window: Could it be Gladys Callow in the dark jacket? Standing; the late Dave Phillips and Murray Lambden. Sitting: Ann Cain. the late Gwelda Lambden, Robbie Lambden, Martin Lambden (standing), Chris Keown, Michael Keown and Andy Garrett. If you can add or correct and tell a few yarns about the people or the event, please do so on the forum.  Murray Lambden 15 February 2006.

And here is a photo from the same meeting in 2003 with the new clubhouse in view. Chris Quine and Andy Fox, two of the Island's most successful middle distance runners of all time, demonstrate how most athletes put at least as much back into the sport as they take out as they are seen lap scoring for the walk. The binoculars further demonstrate that Andy prefers middle distance to short distance! Lots of other familiar faces in the background - too many to identify early in the morning when this update was completed.

manxathletics.com is an independent site designed, edited and funded by Murray Lambden.

The site was updated daily for three and a half years until June 2004 when the webeditor took a sabbatical. It now serves as a portal for Manx athletes with special features on a few events and ad hoc publishing when time permits without giving in to the addiction! Old features can be found by using the Google search below or by using the old features page. The clubs are encouraged to develop their own sites to promote their events. manx.athletics.com will complement the coverage with statistics and extra pictures but, most of all, if will try and highlight the content of other sites and give everyone a chance to air their views on the forum.

manxharriers.com which is edited by Paul Jackson, is the highly recommended sister site of manxathletics.com
