NORTHERN 10 database - now updated with the results of 13 years including 2004 MORE PICTURES FROM THE NORTHERN 10 Bernie Cannan (47) and Richard Jamieson (88) of the host club Northern AC finished second and seventh on Sunday. Its not long ago since there were serious concerns about Richard when he was badly hurt in a cycling accident. And its not much more than a year since Bernie also had health problems after collapsing suddenly at work. Its great to see them both running competitively, if not quite at their best yet. Picture by Steve Partington Shirley Foley was understandably delighted with her second senior woman prize. Shirley has previously raced in the Bradda, Greeba, Carraghan and Snaefell fell races Picture by Murray Lambden . Footballer Chris Kneen took fifth place on Sunday - if only he trained as an athlete! Jonathan Leece in action in the Northern 10 (Picture by Murray Lambden) Now read what he wrote to me a couple of months ago: "I notice that I am in the picture (in the green pants and black with pink trim jacket). I am guessing that this was when I was any age between 7 and 9 which makes it anywhere between 1987 and 1989. I remember that this was either early on a Saturday or early on a Sunday. If my memory serves me correctly I don't think my dad raced this day. Even my memory fades and I'm only 23 I wonder what it must be like being your age!!!!!!!!!" Picture by Steve Partington
Mike Garrett was not only first off the mark in the Northern 10 Miles on Sunday, leading all the way, he is also the first to announce the finalisation of his fund raising from the Flora London Marathon. He raised £1,200 for Manx Cancer Help in his marathon debut. Mike has met his targets in both his main races of the year beating three hours for the marathon and 59 minutes for 10 miles. Next he aims for the Western 10 on 8 July. Picture by Steve Partington Chris Kneen collects the prize for the second senior (non veteran) runner in the Northern 10 miles on Sunday. Let's hope he progresses as quickly as the man who filled that role last year, Andy Cannell, who went on to win the Manx Cross Country title eight months later. Chris was two minutes faster than Andy a year ago! Picture by Murray Lambden Paul Curphey, pictured above receiving his prize from Mike Boulton, is the new Manx veterans 10 mile title holder. Paul set his best time for 10 miles of 55.46 in the 1990 Western 10 miles (featured below) whilst still concentrating on football. The times in the 1990 are somewhat better than currently being achieved with six runners under 57 minutes and nine under the hour. copyright
