Rachael & Kevin IOM Half Marathon Champions
Manx Harriers have a new star in Rachael Tewkesbury, following a fantastic run in the Haldane Fisher Syd Quirk Half Marathon on Sunday 2nd November organised by the IOM VAC Rachael won the Women’s Isle of Man Half Marathon Championships comfortably in a time of 88m 45s, a personal best time and almost 3 minutes quicker than her half marathon debut in Ramsey in August this year and well inside the Island Games guideline time of 90m 30s. Kevin Loundes took the men’s title in an impressive time of 71 m 16s despite being halted at the level crossing by the late running steam train. (photos by Stan Hall full collection here)

Reagan’s Manx High Jump Record
Manx Harriers high jumper Reagan Dee has been in outstanding form in 2008. After clearing 1.48 metres in last season’s Lancashire Championships (a performance that ranked her number 9 in the UK in the Under 13 age group in 2007) she recently upped her pb to 1.62 metres in a schools event. If ratified, this performance would presently rank her number 5 in the UK this season in her first year as an Under 15. Even more significantly, this would be a new outright Isle of Man ladies record for the High Jump, beating the previous mark of 1.61 metres jointly held by Cheryl Done (set in 1986) and Hollie Bass (2002). Has any outright Isle of Man athletics record ever before been held by a 13 year old? Reagan will be too young to be considered for selection for the 2009 Island Games which stipulates a minimum age of 15 for athletics, but to put into perspective what a terrific competitor she is, a jump of 1.62m would have won the silver medal in last year’s Island Games in Rhodes! Personal Best & Silver for Lauren
Sports Aid recipient Lauren Whelan reduced her personal
best time by four seconds whilst being part of the large England Squad
competing in the Schools’ International Track & Field events for U17 year
olds held at the Bedford International Athletics Stadium on Saturday 19th July. Lauren lined up for the 3000m walks, which combined the
girls and boys together. The conditions
were not ideal, being extremely windy but this did not seem to deter her. From the gun Lauren was with the two Irish Girls who have
both recorded faster times this year but this did not seem to faze her. She
walked fairly even splits through out but last years winner Fiona Dennehy just
managed to pull away in the last two laps winning in a time of 15.34. Also,
Irelands Emma Prindbhil started to pull away but Lauren never lost focus and
with just over a lap to go she managed to leave the Irish girl behind to finish
second in a time of 15.57 breaking the 16 minute barrier for the first time to win Silver medal.
Emma finished third in 16.14 followed by England’s Vicky Morgan in 16.42. Lauren would like to thank the Isle of Man Sports Council for their support. (Report thanks to Elizabeth Corran) Results here
