5K Walk

Thursday 19th May 2005

Steve Partington & Bridget Kaneen, fastest two in the 5K walk on the Access Road on Thursday evening.

Steve Partington showed a good turn of foot on Thursday evenings 5k walk.  Despite being in 50 kilometre training at present he was pleased record a time that showed he is still sharp at the shorter distances.

Bridget Kaneen was also happy to record a time a few seconds inside her previous best for the distance, she was made to work very hard to keep in front of Andy Gosnell who chased hard throughout.

It was nice to welcome two newcomers to racing at the shorter distances, both Stephen Hall and Andi Cunningham adding a bit of speedwork to their Parish Walk preparations.

Four juniors also walked part of the race.  Fay Latham was a minute clear of Kirsty Taylor in the two lap race and Bronwen Kaneen finishing in front of younger sister Sinead in the one lap event.

Thanks to race officials,  Judi Morrey, Doug Corkill, Paul Jackson and all those who came out to support on the night. (Report by Bridget Kaneen)

Support from the regular racewalking fraternity for Thursdays 5K walk was completely underwhelming. On a positive note, newcomers Stephen Hall (left) and Andi Cunningham enjoyed their first experience at racewalking. They improved in confidence and pace as the race progressed  with help from Dougie Corkill who offered them some ‘live’ coaching during the race. Stephen and Andi are regular competitors in the Peel Dave Phillips Memorial Runs & Ramsey Park runs .

PB’s (I think) for Bridget & Andy

Kirst Taylor continues to improve. She is pictured here coming in to finish her 2 lap race

Fay took a late descision to compete. She takes part in her first Junior Triathlon on Sunday

Bronwen Kaneen competed against younger sister Sinead in the 1 lapper

Sinead Kaneen (in pink) walked her 1 lap race with Kirsty Taylor (81) eventually finishing just ahead of her before Kirsty continued to complete her final 2nd lap.
