The Managrakem Fell League continues on Tuesday
22nd July when the final short race this season takes place down in
Ramsey.
The Sean Craig & sons sponsored North Barrule
Fell Race is just 3.5 miles in length but climbs a testing 1750 ft. as it goes
from Ramsey Hairpin to the summit of North Barrule and back. It is one of the
most straightforward in the league, the first half goes up the second half down,
as simple as that although it does call for a great deal of concentration when
descending at pace if the mist is down. If anyone has been thinking of having a
go at one of our races then this is probably the ideal starter as it is easy to
follow the route.
It will probably the most open race of the year as
most of the top boys will be giving it a miss as they will be running in the
Snowdon International just four days later. Added to this, last years winner
Richard Jamieson is not expected to run again this season as he will be off the
Island for a long while. One person who could well do the buisness is Steve
Partington who has a very good record in this particular race, having won it on
a few occasions in the past as indeed has his better half Cal in the ladies
class.
Steve is still the holder of the outright course record that he set back
in 1989, a very quick 33.39. Not to be outdone Cal set the best ever time by a
female in 1995 a time of 42 11. Watch out also for Tony Rowley who is targetting
this race for his come-back on the fells. Tony has recovered remarkably quickly
from being under the knife to cure a knee problem and although he will be
nowhere near fit his natural ability will ensure he will not be far away at the
finish.
Start time is 7.15pm Minimum age 16
years. |
