1980 – Boundary Harriers 20km Walk
Mike Holmes of Yorkshire Walking Club, whose previous visits to the Isle of Man had included victory in the 1976 TT Walk (5 hours 57 minutes 31 seconds) was the club’s guest and he duly won the 20km event in 1 hour 31 minutes 46 seconds, more than six minutes clear of Murray Lambden who nevertheless set a personal best time and broke the 100 minute barrier for the first time.
Graham Young, who was known to peak every four years for the Commonwealth Games, was not at his best, and faded to finish 3rd, a further 8 minutes behind.
