Peter Hughes went well during the first half but he was beginning to show the strain here at 20 miles. It took all of his marathon experience to get himself home two minutes inside 3 hours.

"It makes you wonder if its all worthwhile" was one of Paul Curphey’s first comments but he’ll be back. I even took pity on him on the way back to the hotel on the underground as a picture of him climbing stairs would have told the whole story!

Catriona Farrant improved by nearly an hour. (Picture by Geoff Farrant)

Tony Duncan and Jeff Looker impressed on their first run in London running together to beat the four hour barrier. (Picture from Jeff Looker)
