The master at work. Keith Gerrard, who was chosen by visitors to this site as the athlete of 2005, storms into an early lead at the Lancashire Cross Country Championships at Blackburn on Saturday. (Picture by Tom Bateson)

Read about Keith's and Sarah Astin's success at Blackburn (and much more) at www.manxharriers.com

Also Graham Davies's feature at www.iomathletics.co.uk

Where has everyone else got too? The diehards were amazed with the ease with which Keith left the field behind. The Blackburn venue has been used every year since 2002 and only one runner, Tim Dickinson in 2002, has run faster. Conditions were undoubtedly some of the best this year, but when you consider that the course was lengthened last year to go around instead of across a football pitch, then Keith may well have been on a par with the 2002 time which was 34 seconds better.

Team formation. The importance of a strong squad in cross country team events can never be under-estimated. Although Nick Percival and Dave Newton (401) did not make the scoring six, they provided invaluable support to the Manx Harriers team in the Lancashire Cross Country at Blackburn.

The scene from the Lancashire Cross Country at Blackburn during the under 17 boys race with Andrew Newton and Lee Butterworth among the runners climbing the hill. In the background (top right) is Blackburn Rover's football stadium where Blackburn play Manchester United tonight 11 January). On Saturday they played Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup and Eric Nelson (record breaking Manx footballer, occasional cross country runner and father of Sarah) went to watch the match after supporting Sarah in her race. Sarah is pictured below.

manxathletics.com is an independent site designed, edited and funded by Murray Lambden.

The site was updated daily for three and a half years until June 2004 when the webeditor took a sabbatical. It now serves as a portal for Manx athletes with special features on a few events and ad hoc publishing when time permits without giving in to the addiction! Old features can be found by using the Google search below or by using the old features page. The clubs are encouraged to develop their own sites to promote their events. manx.athletics.com will complement the coverage with statistics and extra pictures but, most of all, if will try and highlight the content of other sites and give everyone a chance to air their views on the forum.

manxharriers.com which is edited by Paul Jackson, is the highly recommended sister site of manxathletics.com
