48 year old Northern AC athlete Kevin Vondy has been recording personal best times in nearly every event this year. A year ago today he ran a personal best of 2:58:18 for the marathon in Belfast, a time he looks set to go well inside in the same event on Bank Holiday Monday in 6 days time when he returns to Belfast.

Kevin Vondy smashed his marathon best time by 7 minutes in the Belfast City Marathon on Monday. He recorded 2.51.36 after getting a great start and crossing the line the moment the race started. After an opening 6.13 mile he got into a 6.20 groove but it was only when he reached 23 miles in 2.30 that he realised he was in line for the big improvement that had been forecast. Results here

Kevin, who is 48, attributes his improvement at such an age to two factors. A couple years ago he started interval training with some of his Northern AC clubmates and his basic speed has improved. Also, in the past few months he has targeted key long distance training runs when he has run at a much faster pace than previously. (photo Ben Lambden)

NEW SEARCH FACILITY BRINGS ALL MANX SITES TOGETHER

manxathletics.com is an independent site designed, edited and funded by Murray Lambden.

The site was updated daily for three and a half years until June 2004 when the webeditor took a sabbatical. It now serves as a portal for Manx athletes with special features on a few events and ad hoc publishing when time permits without giving in to the addiction! Old features can be found by using the Google search below or by using the old features page. The clubs are encouraged to develop their own sites to promote their events. manxathletics.com will complement the coverage with statistics and extra pictures but, most of all, if will try and highlight the content of other sites and give everyone a chance to air their views on the forum.

manxharriers.com which is edited by Paul Jackson, is the highly recommended sister site of manxathletics.com
