John Crellin - RIP
His friends in athletics join the motor cycling fraternity in the shock at the passing of John Crellin on Friday. He was unique. A life of motor cycle racing was combined with three attempts to climb Mount Everest, many other mountaineering successes and, given his many injuries, an amazing ability to continue running. He climbed six of the seven summits (the highest mountain in each continent). He completed the TT 40 miles four times between 1983 and 1986 and finished the Parish Walk at the first attempt in 1997. He ran in many off island cross country races but he was best known in athletics for his fell running. The picture above was taken during the Senior TT which was to claim his life less than an hour later.
