The back page of the Manx Independent this week features Jackie Taggart (above) who is destined to be British Fell Running Champion. Its the only place to find a full report of the record breaking performances of Rachael Franklin and Alex Eaton, and the continuing high level performances of Joe Reid and Olivia Curran, at the British Championships. There is also room for a detailed report on the Manx walkers who achieved many successes
in the English Schools Walking Championships in Nottinghamshire.
Where else but the Isle of Man would you find 80% of a newspaper page devoted to a fairly low level event as the Dave Phillips races or carry the names and times of all forty finishers in a handicap mile race (the Steve Jacobs mile)? Western AC’s track league is reported in full, the report of Laa Columb Killey is published as are plans for Ray Shooter to run his 199th marathon. Even without access to the internet you will
have no reason to lack knowledge of this week’s four up and coming events and the lead sports story concerns a former junior Manx runner winning the National Cycling Championships.
Facebook may be good for the speed at which news can be shared but try finding as much information in one place as you can in the Manx Independent – you won’t.
