MANX
FELL RUNNERS PERFORM WELL AT BRITISH CHAMPS
by
Richie Stevenson
Good news from the British Fell Champs.race in
Wales.
There were over 300 running and our top finisher was Onion Gale in 50th
place. Team Isle of Man packed well with Tony Okell 51st and Simon Skillicorn
52nd with Mike Quine not far behind in 65th place, great performances by them
all in this very high standard race.
We had two running in the women's race and
they both ran brilliantly. Cal Partington was 12th (143rd overall) and
Christine Barwell 18th (179th) which they must be delighted with.
Isle of Man
based Paul Sheard, who was running for Pudsey and Bramley, was a superb 15th
and 2nd veteran in a race won by Staffs and Moorlands Simon Bailey.
I spoke briefly to Onion a few minutes ago (4.45
Sunday) and he
said the race was very tough but everyone thoroughly enjoyed the course and the
tough competition. He didn`t have time to give any more details as the team were
dashing off to get back to Liverpool for tonight's Seacat sailing.
Unfortunately the trip got off to a bad start when
Mark Preston had to withdraw on the Friday due to putting his back out at work,
much to his disappointment.
