Sally Walker (above) won the women’s race in a fine sixth overall in 7:29:54 finishing during the worst of the weather when rain was added to the strong headwinds.
In second place was Judith Quane in 7:36:12 (7th overall)
Third place went to Hannah Hunter (66) in 8:17:39
Vinny Lynch pushes the pace in the early stages followed by Richard Gerrard and Jock Waddington
They were joined by Richard Spenceley to make it an exciting four way scrap until Kirk Michael.
First Lynch, then Waddington and finally Spenceley lost touch with Gerrard
Spenceley finished second in 7:01:16 and, with Waddington and Lynch retiring at Peel, Michael George (above) moved into third and withheld a strong challenge from Michael Readshaw their times being 7:16:29 and 7:16:55.
50 years later – Martin Bell last entered (and finished) the End to End Walk in 1961. Yes he was just 14 years old then and a minute a mile faster than his 9 hours and 1 minute into a strong headwind on Sunday. (photo Neil Wilson)
