CASTLETOWN TO PEEL ROAD RACE 17 June 2003
Fell runners united – Tony Okell and Ian Gale were together during the first half of the Castletown to Peel race last night. Pictures: Murray Lambden Women united – Lorraine Stigant, Janet Oates and Wendy Ross were close together although when I last saw them Wendy was about 5 metres ahead at 4 miles. There were only 17 starters this year compared to 30 last year. Ballasalla man Ray Shooter (171) who has run an amazing number of marathons (more than 100) in the past 20 years, mainly in South Africa, was in his useful cheerful mood on Tuesday night. I asked (jokingly) if he had run the world famous Comrades Marathon the previous day and he replied that he felt he had run it on the morning of the race! Also in the picture are Martin Bell and winner Ian Gale. Women’s winner Wendy Ross smiles for the camera as she follows Lorraine Stigant. Pictures of the Western AC event by Murray Lambden
