The Isle of Man was well represented at the Tower Hotel in London on Saturday 13 September at a lunch to mark the achievements of British walkers at the Commonwealth Games since 1966. Listening to Ian McCombie’s speech (in which Manx walkers were picked on as much as any others!) were (left to right): Phil Bannan (who represented the Isle of Man in 1966), Rob Elliott of Guernsey (who has contributed regularly to this site), three times Isle of Man representatives Cal Partington and Graham Young, five times Olympic walker and British 50km record holder Chris Maddocks and Steve Partington who, in one of the more serious aspects of the speeches, was applauded for being the only person in the Commonwealth to take part in the walks at six different Commonwealth Games.
