There was a terrific scrap between Andy Gosnell (160) and Paul Curphey (159) on the last lap of the Manx Gas Challenge at Port St Mary with Andy just securing 11th place. Earlier in the race fell runner Mike Quine (173) stretched them out and the three were pictured by Martin Critchley.

This Sunday Andy will be trying to defy conventional wisdom when he runs in the New York Marathon less than a month after recording a personal best in the Cardiff Marathon. He plans to treat the trip as an experience rather than a race but he is in the best form of his life improving his time by a massive three minutes at Port St Mary. Meanwhile Paul prefers to stick to his once a year marathon schedule and will run in London for the 13th time next April.

A great picture of the start by Steve Partington. Youth rivals Andrew Newton (124) and Lee Butterworth (140) sandwich over 45 winner Andy Fox (28) as they lead the 80+ field at the start of the Manx Gas Challenge.

There was a massive turnout in Round 2 of the Manx Gas Challenge at Port St Mary on Sunday - the biggest senior field for years as can be seen from the top picture by Adrian Cowin. The runaway winner (again) was John Halligan (left) while Simon Skillicorn (123) improved from third to second with Andy Fox (28) taking third spot.

CROSS COUNTRY FEATURE AT MANXHARRIERS.COM

Female winner Cal Partington (119) nearly hits the wall in the cross country. She is pictured with triathlete Russell Collister (40) by Martin Critchley.

Get away from the town and run round 3 of the Manx Gas Challenge on Sunday 13 November at Crossags Farm, Ramsey (picture by Murray Lambden).

Northern AC are promoting the 3rd round of the Manx Gas Challenge on 13 November and many are naming the Crossags Farm course as the best of the current cross country courses on the Isle of Man.  The course has already been used once this winter for an open meeting and these pictures show its variety.

Top: Father and son combination of Jordan and Phil head the pack on the ultra flat section of the course.

Middle: Dave Collister leads Dave Newton up the tough part.

Bottom: And don't forget the obstacles! Lorraine Stigant clears one - it is also necessary to negotiate a stream twice on every lap.

The Manx Gas Challenge has attracted massive interest this winter and, if the additional entries that are expected in the third round materialise, there could be a problem with parking space. Even at this early stage if is worth considering car sharing to keep ahead of this problem.

Ever wondered what happened to all the old features at www.manxathletics.com when, prior to June 2004, it was updated daily? Well, most of them, including the old news pages,  are still available (use the Google search below) but, if you would like a diversion, here are a couple of links to many of the features.

FEATURES PRIOR TO 2003

manxathletics.com is an independent site designed, edited and funded by Murray Lambden.

The site was updated daily for three and a half years until June 2004 when the webeditor took a sabbatical. It now serves as a portal for Manx athletes with special features on a few events and ad hoc publishing when time permits without giving in to the addiction! Old features can be found by using the Google search below.

manxharriers.com which is edited by Paul Jackson, is the highly recommended sister site of manxathletics.com
