Simon Cox – 4th in Bradford (ML)
|
The 108th Bradford Whit Walk (actually held on
Spring Bank Holiday Monday) was over a revised distance of 35km on Monday and
on a new 7km course around Baildon / Shipley Glen. In keeping with the
tradition of the event, there was a big hill with walkers climbing for the best
of a mile on each lap.
61 year old Simon Cox of the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes Club finished
in 4th place, 17 seconds inside four hours. He said that the
Allan Brooks devised course was well received by all the competitors and was
much safer than the traditional 50km loop around Ilkley and Ottley, apart from a
steep hill down a main road with a sharp right hand corner back down to Baildon.
“I would thoroughly recommend it as Parish Walk
preparation. It would be good to get a team, or teams, entered next
year.” He said.
Paul Evenett (Redcar) won in 3:21;30 from Adrian Edwards (Lancashire) in approximately 3.41. There were at
least four other Scotitsh Widows Parish entrants: Richard Spenceley was 3rd,
John Constandinou 7th, Mark Byrne 9th and Karen Davies 15th.
