AAA CHAMPIONSHIPS PICTURES BY MIKE & MURRAY LAMBDEN UKA PRESIDENT DAVID HEMERY A personal best of just 4.18.6 for 1500 metres – but that was just a year after he won the 400 metres hurdles Olympics in a magnificent 48.12 in 1968. And what about Jon Ridgeon (above)? He is best known as a meeting promoter and TV presenter but what a shame his own career was cut so short. Colin Jackson ranks as one of the greatest of all time and yet Jon Ridgeon was alongside him, and sometimes ahead, as a junior. Remember their first major championships as seniors?
Christian Malcolm just pips Darren Campbell in the 200 metres semi finals and look certain to battle it out in the final. But they maybe didn’t expect this man, Julian Golding, to run quite as well in the final. At least one person in the crowd predicted he would win! And another picture for the "Robbie Lambden meets the stars" collection. Daniel Cains is only too willing to pose for the fans despite being told rather rudely to "break it up" by a security man because he had been blocking the VIP’s cars. Dwain Chambers showed the importance of keeping the fans on your side last weekend. Mike Lambden, who like me took several hundred pictures of the AAA champs, pictured at Birmingham last week. He has worked in the city for the past 20 years. I’m going to leave the remainder of the AAA pictures for the time being and start using some of my late father’s pictures again which Mike has scanned.
