Following the 2010 event, Manx Harriers took the difficult decision to discontinue the historic Peel to Douglas Road Run due to increased traffic on the A1 in recent years and the related safety concerns expressed by Police, competitors, marshals, vehicle owners and those responsible for organising the event. However, Manx Harriers are committed to preserving the rich history and tradition of the Peel to Douglas run and have organised an alternative road and trail run, switching the majority of the course to the Heritage Trail along the old railway line. Manx Harriers are delighted that Isle of Man Bank have confirmed their continued support and sponsorship of this event in its new form.

NEW COURSE DETAILS
The Isle of Man Bank sponsored Peel to Douglas Road and Trail Run starts outside the Town Hall, Derby Road, Peel and begins with the familiar loop once around the block as follows; Right turn along Albany Road, right turn along Tynwald Road, right turn at the Whitehouse Pub along Athol Street and a right turn at the bus depot onto Derby Road   passing the Town Hall. The race route continues along Albany Road again, this time turning left at the end onto the main Peel to Douglas road heading towards St Johns. A short distance past Ballaharra Quarry at St Johns runners will bear right leaving the A1 to join the public footpath which leads to the Heritage Trail. (this is the same footpath linking the A1 with the Heritage Trail  as used in the reverse direction in Western AC's Peel Heritage Trail Run in August).  Runners will then follow the route of the old railway line towards Douglas. The race finishes on the TT Access Road a short distance before its junction with the New Castletown Road.

Trail shoes are recommended for this event.

Refreshments will be served in the Manx Harriers clubhouse, followed by the prize presentation at approximately 11am.

The majority of gates along the old railway line will be manned and opened for runners by marshals with the exception of 3 locked gates which will require runners to use the adjacent kissing gates. Road crossings will also be marshalled.

Marshals & Helpers 2012

Please study the chart below and volunteer by calling Paul Jackson on 487873 or email here

Some marshalling duties in Peel, St Johns, Crosby and Glen Vine involve road junctions/crossings. The majority just involve manning the gates along the course, keeping them open for the runners as they pass through.
