20K St. Johns 1991 Steve Partington (1), Martin Rush, Darryl Stone (22) Jimmy McDonald (Ireland) & Mark Easton (24) Steve Taylor recalls; Martin faded during the latter stages of the race and was closed down dramatically at the finish by none other than my good self finishing one second behind him in a then pb of 92.11.The following year Martin set a qualifying time for the Olympics at our meeting dead heating with Andy Penn in 83.45. Martin also said prior to a AAA 10km championship walk that if I ever beat him he would retire. Martin won the AAA lapping me several times whilst I tailed in last to rapturous applause!! |

The picture of Steve Partington is from 1990, the camera man was probably standing in front of the clubhouse. The water really was ankle deep on that corner, a tremendous performance in the conditions. His 87.44 was just in or outside a qualifying time for some championship.
