Report & Results by Bridget Kaneen

Dave Taylor was the leading novice walker - only 51 metres short of completing 10 kilometres over the hour. Sally Walker finished second novice recording a distance of 9,652 metres and was also noted by the judges as being technically very proficient and someone to watch for in the coming season . Ron Kelly was third novice, another who has improved his fitness greatly over the last 12 months, managing  a fine 9,122 metres.

Vinny Lynch picked up the bonus  prize for furthest walked on the day with his 10,572 metres covered in a great race involving Andy Green and Richard Gerrard.

In the half hour challenge 13 year old Alex Eaton took the honours in a hard fought race with the more experienced Adam Cowin.  While Adam is short on fitness due to a long term  injury, he walked very well once he got in to his stride. Alex's fitness did outstrip his technique at times, but with some technical training he will no doubt improve quickly. Danielle Oates walked the furthest of the girls with some style ahead of the duo of Alexandra Ross and Sinead Kaneen and newcomers Victoria Wright and Jenny Walker.

In the 2k newcomers race,  Rebecca Storrie and Olivia Watterson showed very good speed, finishing ahead of youngster Shaun Roach.  In the 1k event it was a close race with Lee Mackey just getting the better of Max Walker with Max's younger brother Zack finishing third.

Thanks go to the George family of The Welbeck Hotel and Restaurant for providing the prizes and buffet at the finish and to Jim Cottier of the Ronaldsway Social Club for arranging the use of their facilities. Thanks also to all the officials who came out to support the event.
