Wednesday 26th December 2012
This new event, first held on 27th December 2010, takes place on the 3.5 mile trail run around the Ballanette farm, Lonan which is the base of Stewart Clague Services at Clay Head. Manx Harriers wish to thank Stewart Clague Services for their kind support of this relay. The event takes its inspiration from the Millennium Way Relay which it replaces at this time of year. It too is a 4 leg handicap relay. Legs one and four are 2 laps of the course so covering 7 miles each and are for the fitter or faster members of teams. Legs two and three are then run over 1 lap of the 3.5 mile lap. As such a team covers 6 laps of the route in total. The handicap will run off 10km times which are used by the handicappers to provide estimated times for the 2 lap and 1 lap legs. The slower teams will set off first followed by the faster teams later. There will be a presentation immediately after the event - more details to follow on this. The event is close to sea level so should be affected less than the traditional mountain course, it is all off road so there is no worry regarding traffic etc. and also the new course means that a team of 6 officials should be able to run the whole event on the day.
