Cheers! Getting a drink out of Les Brown is a rare occurrence indeed. But the beverages were on him for the entire duration of the race.
Michael George battled with Steve Partington for the majority of the race. Steve made a break for it with 3 laps to go, only for the hotelier from Douglas to reclaim the lead on the final lap and take the title. Steve, who came out of retirement for Sunday's event, reckons this was his first 20Km finish time over 100 minutes for more than 25 years! A terrific performance nevertheless without any racewalking training for many months.
Poor Les. That was a very expensive round
Unknown to the organisers and competitors, there was also a 20Km tractor race over the same course this morning which attracted a seemingly huge entry. Pictured above are the top 2
