Haldane Fisher Syd Quirk Half Marathon feature by Adrian Cowin

Imagine flying 1,000 miles, then driving 300k to do a 20k race walk in Italy that you have spent the last 7 months banging your head against a brick wall trying to enter. 

Imagine you then get disqualified after doing less than half distance, receiving the first two cards for 'bent knee' which hasn't happened to you before in your career, despite having competed in Holland, England and Ireland. 

Imagine you try and ease the pain of what has just happened by having lunch and a beer in a cafe by the course and they give you this:

Imagine you won't feel too sorry for him though, he got to spend the whole week in the sun on the Adriatic Coast.

NB - Michael George's week ended more successfully with victory in the Haldane Fisher Syd Quirk Half Maraton Walk on Sunday.

Lloyd Taggart and Jackie Lee (above) took victory in the Syd Quirk Half Marathon - Jackie became the 6th fastest woman on the course, despite the awful weather. Here are the sub 1:35 times:
