After much thought provoking discussion and debate, Manx Harriers have taken the difficult decision todiscontinue the Peel to Douglas Road walk. This is due to increasing traffic and the related safety concerns in recent years expressed by Police, competitors, marshals, vehicle owners and those responsible for organising the event.

Manx Harriers have made attempts in recent years to improve safety by changes to the course to avoid crossing the full width of the Castletown Road at the Quarterbridge as well as earlier start times in recent years but it has been increasingly difficult to manage this race on roads that are open to vehicular traffic and the event is now yet another to follow other races that no longer are held such as the T.T. relay walk and the Boundary Stroll.

Manx Harriers would like to thank Empire Garage Ltd for their long years of sponsorship and to all those who have helped to keep the event on the road for as long as was possible.

The event was first held in 1961 and the 50th event in 2010 was also the 25th to be sponsored by Empire Garage.
