Nikki Boyde, who finished second in the Northern 10 on Sunday might not have been sure of the direction at St Judes but I discovered that she took part in the event 25 years ago - albeit as a junior girl. The newspaper cutting to the left (also recording Tony Varley, father of Christian who won on Sunday, winning) shows Nikki in her maiden name of Radcliffe winning way back in 1984 with her sister Mandy, the former English Schools 1500 metres finalist, also first in her age group. And here is Nikki and Mandy's Uncle Richard on the TT Course on Sunday. He has marshalled on the course for many years; for anyone off the Isle of Man who doesn't know, the TT practices start on Saturday evening and the roads close each evening for a week (apart from Sunday) for practice and then there are four race days the following week. Just like athletics, the event relies heavily on volunteer officials such as Richard Radcliffe.
