Three more that almost missed the front page

Robbie Lambie responded to a blog comment about the fastest times in the veterans mile. He thinks the fastest runners  are:-

Rob Lambie        4.48.4    1994

Richard Radcliffe 4.51      1994

Kevin Albinson    4.56/7    1994

Dave Newton       4.59      1994

Alan Possie       5.01      1991

Doug Corkill      5.03      1991

Murray Lambden    5.05 ish  2003

Kevin Vondy       5.06      1994

Robbie Callister  5.06      ?

"Of course the 2 most competitive years were 1994 where 6runners broke 5 minutes and 22 runners started  I had to run under 65 on the last lap that year to break away from the chasing pack.  A great competitive race that.  Also the year 2003 where you, me and Kevin were involved in a ding dong on the last lap. Of course I would say that wouldn't I?" concluded Robbie.

And Steve Taylor asks: "Is the start of the Peel round the houses? It started at Creg Mallin up Walpole Road, turn right left at the chippy and right at the top of the road and down past the town hall, left at the Royal. right at the Whitey through Boiley Spittal and on to quay by the Creek back along to the Creg, five laps in total."

"One of my favourite races but this was just before my time" he continued. "In the picture from left: Johanne Kermode, ?, ? totally hidden bar their feet, Murray Lambden, Graham Young, Allan Callow, ?, John Cannell, Noel Cringle".  Any other contributions.

and the other three were

(Left to right) Tom Bateson (2nd), Tom Cringle (1st), Paul Curphey (3rd)

The one they used to call the marathon - Laa Columb Killey, the Arbory Parish Festival, was held in fine conditions on Thursday, 23rd June wrote Adrian Cowin.  In the 5.5mile 'marathon' the crowd watched an elated Tom Cringle make a good comeback from recent injury to win the Jubilee Cup for this event in just under 34 minutes. He was followed shortly afterwards by a fast-finishing Tom Bateson, and Paul Curphey soon came across the line in third. It was great to see Janine Cubbon (nee Cringle) run in quickly to take fourth place, & the Ladies medal. In the walking event, held over the same course, Phil Knopp was able to take the honours just ahead of Munerra Quayle.
RESULTS: Run - 1 Tom Cringle 33:52. 2 Tom Bateson 34:32. 3 Paul Curphey 34:52. 4 Janine Cubbon 35:12. 5 Lewis Veale 35:30. 6 Steve Kennaugh 35:45. 7 Ray Shooter 46:05. 8 Brian Harvey 46:20. 9 Juan Callow 47:50. 10 Ian Callister 48:20. 11 Jo Sykes 52:10. =11 Paul Sykes 52:10. 13 Matthew Wilson 56:22. 14 Craig Liddell 58:45. Walk - 1 Phil knopp 62:10. 2 Munerra Quayle 62:35. 3 Eric Kissack 64:55. 4 Dave 'Rads' Quayle 73:10. 5 Dave Tasker 73:35.
Trophy winners in other events: Aaron Leadingham (Sam Perry Cup, parishioners 100M). Aalish Bridson (Stuart Moore Cup, 100M). Wesley Omar (Jack Curphey Cup, 100M). To the man who might well turn to the marathon - Keith Gerrard, the man who has smashed the 5,000 and 10,000 metres Manx track records in the USA.

And thirdly to two runners who cycled an ultra marathon.

On 11th July 2011, twoManxmen, Aaron Quinn (above) and Gianni Epifani (below), rode stage 19 of the 2011 Tour de France in aid of Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation, a local charity organisation which has been primarily set up by the Lunt family in memory of their 25 year old son, Craig, a well-respected, talented and popular young Manx footballer who tragically died in April 2005. His death was due to a previously undiagnosed heart defect.

The stage, although the shortest in this year’s tour at 109km, is widely regarded as one of the hardest! Starting in Modane, the stage took in three major Alpine climbs or “Cols” which include the Col Du Telegraph (at 5,137ft high), the Col du Galibier (at 8,385ft high) finishing on top of Alpe d’Huez at 6,069 ft high. All in all, to complete this stage Aaron and Gianni had to complete somewhere in the region of 9,000 feet of climbing!

If you would like to sponsor Aaron and Gianni please visit their online sponsor page to make an online donation or send a cheque to Aaron Quinn, 29 Hillberry Heights, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM2 7BN (All cheques  payable to Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation)
