We hope to see the four ladies who were pictured in the HSBC winter league in a lot more races in the years ahead. Marie Jackson (top left) is the British 50km champion and Bridget Kaneen (top right) was making a comeback after a three year absence. Between them, Marie and Bridget organise a large percentage of Manx athletic events for the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes' Club and Manx Harriers respectively. Rose Taylor (bottom left) joins the "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" brigade - she is the wife of former Commonwealth Games walker, Steve "Tigger" Taylor, who is now an international judge. Marie Gilbertson (bottom right) has finished the Clerical Medical Parish Walk for the past four years and is one of the (almost) 500 confirmed entries (don't put your entry off) for this year.
Sadly, 72 year old Brian Brough (bottom picture) was calling it a day on Sunday. He has been suffering from asbestosis for a number of years but is rarely known to complain. A real credit to the sport, he does his best when competing, always appreciates the performances of others and has probably put more marshalling hours into athletics than just about anyone around. Its quite likely that you recognise his face as a marshal as much as a competitor. (pics ML)
