Its the seventeenth time that I have been to the London Marathon but only the 10th time that I've run. Its the second year that I will be bringing news and photos directly from London. I'm also going to be updating the site daily from the UK all this week including on a train from Newcastle to London on Friday.

Chip timing was introduced in 2002 - here are the sub 3 hour times since then.

Marathon week

It is just over a week until the Flora London Marathon, the most high profile athletics event in Britain and one of the main events covered on this website. Each year, between 40 and 50 Manx runners take part and the coverage will start this weekend continuing from the UK all of next week. If you know of anyone running a week on Sunday, then please email murray@manxathletics.com with name, club and charity (if appropriate). Don't assume that I already have the names - my list will be used for all the local media. There will be an update from featured runner Aaron Quinn, who is aiming to raise £5,000 for charity (I will have room for a couple more features if you know of anyone with a special cause) and Dave Cowell, who set the Manx record more than 35 years ago, will tell his story of how he did it.

Preparations for the London Marathon continue on Saturday afternoon with the Mall sealed off from the public.

The only part of the course that really matters - the finishing gantry is erected.

The grandstands were at this point at 2.45

And Birdcage Walk was completely empty - what a contrast to tomorrow lunchtime
