Who will win the Ramsey Bakery White & Healthy End to End Walk?

Peter Kaneen - the 6th fastest person ever (10th fastest time) on the old east coast route (6:30:38) when he won for the second time in 1998.  He has yet to compete on the western course which was first used in 2002.

Jock Waddington has been analysing the statistics on the endtoendwalk.org website.  Will the stats include his name as a winner this year to add to his double success in the Clerical Medical Parish Walk?

Michael George was ranked 4th best 50km walker in Britain during 2008 with his 4:49:53 clocking in the Netherlands in October.  He missed the Parish Walk this year to concentrate on speed but he returns to long distance racing on Sunday.

Janice Quirk sensationally broke the women's record in the Parish Walk this year and finished just 13 minutes behind the overall winner.  Can she become the first overall female winner since Irene Corlett clocked 6:58:32 to win in 1982? (Irene went faster in 6:37:17 to finish second two years later.)

and here are a few oldies from the old course in the 1970s

Top to bottom: 1) Allen Moore finishing the 1976 walk in front of timekeeper and former winner Ian Turnbull; 2) John Cannell leads Murray Lambden approaching the Fairy Bridge the same year; 3) Lambden again in 1974 finishing as a 17 year old in front of the late Kevin Madigan.

Photos by the late Bill Lambden. Apologies again that as photographs were taken much more sparingly because of cost in the old days, they tended to be of our own family. Neverthless I hope they give an insght into the way the event, the roads and the ages have changed!
