The Arthur Jones Fell Race moved to a new course at the weekend but here are some pictures by Mike Lambden from one of the early years on the old course. The 1979 Bradda Fell Race.

Left to right: Graham Young (light blue top), Dave Newton (5), ?, John Wright (mad haircut 1), Richie Stevenson, Murray Lambden (14, mad haircut 2), Terry Evans (16), Peter Simpson (10). ?, You can see Ian Callister's head just behind the unidentified runner in the yellow top, George Hull (8?).

Others to be identified at the start include Steve Kelly (yellow top), Maureen Oddie (31), and Dennis Lace (dark blue anorak).

This picture shows the nature of the course which largely followed well defined tracks. It was held on a Sunday afternoon and the 1979 was held in scorching conditions. The heat and lack of training and poor pace judgment  saw me go from near the front to almost at the back. I'm the first of the two runners here. I think that Steve Kelly won from Dave Newton and I had a feeling that Bob Cowley also started but I can't find the results. If you can add any extra names, want to correct me or have some other stories from your runs in the 30 years or more of the old Bradda Fell Race, please share them on the forum. Murray
